Principles of Adaptation

RESULTS OF ADAPTATION PRINCIPLES

I'm so amazed how the human body adapts to progressive levels of stress (physical, emotional, etc.) to allow us to not only cope with challenges, but to improve our overall health and wellbeing. Many individuals don't take advantage of this and never push themselves enough to allow this adaptation to occur. They always complain of it being to difficult and instead of going at the task slowly at first and building up to it gradually, they attack it hard and then give up. Or they never increase the stress level as their body adapts, and thus never continue to improve.
The two main principles of adaptation are the "GAS" and "SAID". "GAS" stands for General Adaption Syndrome and "SAID" for Specific Adaption to Imposed Demands" and each require periods of high intensity (intervals, increased resistance with less repetitions) followed by recovery days of less intensity and rest to allow adaptation to occur. Although it takes time for the bodies systems to adapt, I always have felt it is well worth the wait.
